Hi, I’m Megan Soun.
I am an Asian American therapist in Irvine, California, who offers online therapy for young adults in their 20s and 30s. Here’s a little bit about who I am and how that shows up in my therapy.
I became a therapist because this work aligns with much of who I am and what I value.
Reflection
I love processing people’s stories with curiosity, depth, and compassion. In therapy, we will explore your story in all its richness and complexity. My hope is that you will feel deeply understood and seen, and that we will gather new insights to create meaningful change in your life.
Connection
Research has found that the best predictor for therapy outcomes is the therapist-client relationship. I place a lot of emphasis on building the sort of relationship where you feel cared for, connected, secure, and less alone.
Affirmation
Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee as an Asian American, I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t belong or you aren’t valued. Therefore, it is incredibly meaningful for me to honor client’s unique particularities and to help my clients develop a sense of their goodness and mattering.
Growth
To me, therapy is much more than reducing symptoms. I see therapy as an opportunity to move beyond survival towards genuine thriving. I support my clients in getting unstuck from patterns that no longer serve them and instead to cultivate a life marked by freedom and flourishing.
A personal experience that has shaped my professional identity: growing up in the South as a 2nd gen Asian-American
Therapy is about connection, understanding, and new life
My therapy style: warm, exploratory, attuned, affirming
Clinical catchphrases: “reclaiming agency,” “honoring limits,” “hold two things together,” “you’re a human, not a robot”
A meaningful client compliment I’ve received: “Thanks for seeing in me what I couldn’t see in myself.”
Things that move my needle: honeysuckle, all things cozy, bookstores, a good biscuit
